Štefan is a bear guide, who has spent many years exploring the Tatras and observing brown bears in their natural environment. Slovak Bears shares practical knowledge about wildlife, safety and responsible observation.
The aim is to help travellers understand bear country before they enter it: how bears move, why they react, what signs to notice and how to behave calmly.
Štefan has spent many years exploring the Tatras and has climbed more than 300 peaks, towers and summits, in the last years he spents his time in remote valleys observing wild bears from safe distances. During this time he has experienced hundreds of encounters with brown bears and other wildlife.

Incredible!!
What can I say, me and my wife had such an excellent time. Stefan was great. We saw 9 bears in total, 2 deers and 1 goat. Stefan was very knowledgeable, and ensured we got the most out of the experience. We first saw a mum bear with 3 cubs, they were play fighting and she was teaching them to climb which was very fascinating. Stefan was able to describe the behaviours and he knew exactly where we were most likely to see them and the timings too. You could tell Stefan was a real bear enthusiast with lots of stories to tell. It was definitely a highlight of our honeymoon and couldn’t recommend it more. Seeing bears in the wild is incredible and definitely something we’ll never forget. Thank you Stefan.

My tour guide was very accommodating considering the steep hike and my fitness level we went through the thick forest and onto the other side to see the mountain slopes and bears foraging in their natural habitat. There’s always a possibility that you won’t see any bears as they are free to roam wherever they please in their natural environment.
